Few people today are lucky enough to avoid going through a hiring process that does not include a series of interviews. However, attracting the best talent in a growing culturally diverse talent climate is threatened by the pervasive use of the employment interview and increased weight it is given in the selection process. How the interview process affects the selection of applicants of historically excluded groups (HEGs), such as women, people of color, and new immigrants, has received little attention in research even though the issue is of growing importance. One of the most relevant studies shows that relying on high amounts of job relevant information tends to make HEG applicants more competitive. However, this does not consistently translate into higher frequency of diversity hiring. This webinar discusses the reasons for this hiring disparity in the decision making process, and a simple, yet powerful, technique to address it.

Powerpoint presentation with narration. About 15 minutes available at the end of each course for questions, answers, & discussion.
