How strong is the demand for diversity trainers?
If the existence of several organizations offering diversity
trainer workshops and seminars is an indicator, the demand is
high.
One of the oldest and most well-known institution offering
diversity trainer skills is the National Multicultural Training
Institute based in Washington, D.C. The institute offers
week-long programs which include many seminars, lectures,
and workshops. The National Training Laboratory offers
workshops on organizational management, including diversity
training. The National Conference of Race and Ethnicity in
Higher Education has offered diversity-related training for
more than a decade. Most of the conferences' workshops and
sessions focus on diversity training. The same is true for the
National Association of Multicultural Education which will
offer its 10th annual conference in 1998.
Many companies offer in-house training for employees.
Recently, the FAA offered training to all of its employees
which represent airport workers across the United States.
Diversity training books, manuals, tapes, and videos are
numerous and their numbers increase considerably by the day.
President Clinton's Race Initiative also helped to promote
diversity training. More communities, organizations, and
companies are beginning to appreciate the importance of
promoting better relations among American groups. They
need experts to assist them.
The number of independent diversity consultants is large and
increasing by the day. Dozens are located in each large
metropolitan area.
