Our story
A history of firsts — since 1998
1998
Dr. Billy Vaughn designs DTUI while a visiting scholar at the University of Lund, Sweden.
1999
DTUI registers its first class of the train-the-trainer certification program in a distance-learning format.
2000
Receives a Top 50 Human Resource Management Website award.
2001
Secures its first competitive-bid training design & development contract using DTUI's competency-based instructional design framework.
2003
Moves its central office from San Diego to San Francisco.
2007
Reorganizes to balance consulting, training, and continuing education — and is renamed DTUI.com.
2007
Publishes the Strategic Diversity & Inclusion Magazine (online in 2010 as diversityofficermagazine.com).
2009
The CDP credential grows popular as competitors enter the space.
2010
Introduces the online CDP certification program.
2011
Uses the Organizational Inclusion Assessment Toolkit in a large-scale healthcare assessment.
2014
A growing reputation drives more requests for training, assessment, and strategic planning.
2015
Receives an award from the US Army Special Operations Command (Fort Bragg, NC).
2016
Updates the CDT program courses — and debuts the CDP program in India.
2017
Creates the Diversity Executive Leadership Academy and adds the CDE credential.
2019
Wins a competitive bid for a five-year contract with SFMTA.
2020
Adds the CDP-M and CDIR credentials and begins a self-study using accreditation standards.
2022
Completes a self-study using a well-established continuing-education accreditation organization's standards.
